One of the presidential candidates in the upcoming April elections in Afghanistan is Abdul Rasul Sayyaf, a former warlord who's been suspected of close ties to terrorist organizations. His candidacy could jeopardize political stability in the country, as well as any improvements the country has made during the last decade. Norway has already cut some of its aid program because of Afghanistan's failure to deal with corruption, or significantly improve the rights of women.
- Does the EU consider sending an election observation mission to the country to ensure elections are free and democratic?
- Will the EU follow Norway's example and cut its aid to Afghanistan if the policies regarding protection of minorities and women are not implemented?
